Advance Wars: Dual Strike – Skills List

Force Skills and Ranks

The arrival of AWDS introduced a new dimension to battling: CO Force Ranks and Skills.
What is a skill? They are slight boosts to your CO’s abilities when equipped before a battle. A CO can equip up to 4 different skills at once after they reach rank 4.
CO ranks determine how many, and what skills you are able to use. A rank 2 CO has a choice of skills from rank 1 to 2 skills, while a rank 4 has a choice of skills from rank 1 to 4 skills, and so on. Skills only affect your CO, not your tag partner, unless it specifically states that it affects your tag partner. You may use a total of 8 skills in TAG combat, with 4 skills per CO.
There are also special rank * skills that can only be used after you complete the Normal campaign and Hard campaign. They can be equipped by any CO and any rank.

Note: Skills do stack upon each other. For example, selecting both Bruiser (+5% attack) and Brawler (+8% attack) equates to an increase +13% for Direct Attack. The same principle applies to Indirect Attack boosts and monetary bonuses.

Skills List:

Rank 1

  • Bruiser: Adds 5% to direct unit offence, including infantry and mech units. Stacks with Brawler.
  • Sharpshooter: Adds 5% to indirect unit offence. Stacks with Sniper.
  • Slam Guard: Increases defence against direct attacks by 8%. This includes infantry and mech attacks. Stacks with Slam Shield.
  • Snipe Guard: Increases defence against indirect attacks by 8%. Stacks with Snipe Shield.
  • Combat Pay: Damage inflicted on enemy units is converted to funds equal to 2% of the inflicted damage. Similar to Sasha’s SCOP, except much weaker.
  • Luck: Unit has a chance of dealing 10% luck damage when attacking/counter-attacking. Damage is affected by HP and defence.

  • Rank 2

  • APC Guard: Increases defence of all transport units by 10%.
  • Tower Power: Increases tower bonus by 5%. So instead of +10% from each tower, you get +15%.
  • Sneaky: Decreases fuel used by hidden/submerged units by 1 fuel. Stacks with Stealthy.

  • Rank 3

  • Teamwork – Increases offence of tag partner’s units by 5%. Note: Does not work if your COs are split on dual screen mode. Once you win the dual screen, it will take effect. Stacks with Synergy.
  • Scout – Adds +1 vision to your units under fog of war.
  • Mechanic - Adds 1 extra HP to units being healed on cities/bases/HQ. Instead of repairing 2 HP per day, you repair 3. In Rachel’s case, recovers 4 HP per day.
  • Invader - Adds 1 extra point to capture rate. Extremely useful in situations as you can use a 9HP infantry to fully capture a city in two days.
  • Sale Price - Decreases unit deployment cost by 5%. The amount is reduced from the normal price of a unit. Example: Infantry = 1000G. 5% of 1000 = 50. 1000 – 50 = 950. The infantry will cost 950. This skill stacks with Colin and Hachi’s skills for a steeper price reduction. Also stacks with Fire Sale.

  • Rank 4

  • Road Rage – Adds 10% offence to any unit attacking from/above a road tile.
  • Ranger - Adds 10% offence to any unit attacking from/above a forest tile.
  • Urban Fighter - Adds 10% offence to any unit attacking from/above a property tile.
  • Mountaineer - Adds 10% offence to any unit attacking from/above a mountain.
  • Seamanship - Adds 10% offence to any unit attacking from/above a sea tile.
  • Backstab - Adds 15% offence to units attacking while hidden or submerged.

  • Rank 5

  • APC Boost – Adds 1 extra movement space for transport units.
  • Missile Guard - Decreases damage taken from missile silo attacks by 1. Instead of taking 3 damage from missiles, you only take 2.
  • Cannon Guard - Decreases damage taken from black cannons by 2.
  • Star Power – Increases the fill rate of your power bar.

  • Rank 6

  • Bodyguard – Increases defence of tag partner’s units by 10%. Note: Does not work if your COs are split on dual screen mode. Once you win the dual screen, it will take effect.
  • Prairie Dog - Decreases movement cost on plains to 1 for all units. This means your recons and rockets can move freely on plains without movement reduction.
  • Pathfinder - Decreases movement cost on forest to 1 for all units. Same as Prairie Dog, only it works for wood tiles instead of plains.
  • Stealthy - Decreases fuel used by hidden or submerged units by 2. Stacks with Sneaky.
  • Gold Rush - Receive an extra 100 G from properties. Same as Sasha’s day-to-day ability. You will receive 100 extra G per property that generates G per turn. Towers don’t count.

  • Rank 7

  • High and Dry – Increases all units’ offence during rainy weather by 20%.
  • Icebreaker - Increases all units’ offence during snowy weather by 20%. Stacks with Olaf’s ability in snow.
  • Sand Scorpion - Increases all units’ offence by 20% during a sandstorm by 20%.

  • Rank 8

  • Brawler - Adds 8% to direct unit offence, including infantry and mech units. Stacks with Bruiser.
  • Sniper - Adds 8% to indirect unit offence. Stacks with Sharpshooter.
  • Slam Shield - Increases defence against direct attacks by 12%. This includes infantry and mech attacks. Stacks with Slam Guard.
  • Snipe Shield - Increases defence against indirect attacks by 12%. Stacks with Snipe Guard.

  • Rank 9

  • Synergy - Increases offence of tag partner’s units by 8%. Note: Does not work if your COs are split on dual screen mode. Once you win the dual screen, it will take effect. Stacks with Teamwork.
  • Fire Sale - Decreases unit deployment cost by 5%. The amount is reduced from the normal price of a unit. Example: Infantry = 1000G. 8% of 1000 = 80. 1000 – 80 = 920. The infantry will cost 920. This skill stacks with Colin and Hachi’s skills. Stacks with Sale Price for a 13% reduction.

  • Rank *

These skills are unique. The first three become available when you beat the campaign. The last two become available when you beat the hard campaign. The best part is, they can be used by any CO at any rank. Consider it a cheap advantage against your friend who’s stuck on the final level of the campaign and can’t get the skills.

    Normal Campaign

  • Eagle Eye - Adds +2 vision to your units under Fog of War.
  • Gear Head - Adds 2 extra HP to units being healed on cities/bases/HQ. Instead of repairing the normal 2 HP per day, you repair 4. Stacks with Rachel’s ability, recovering 5 HP per day. Scary. >__>;;
  • Conquerer – Adds 2 extra points to capture rate. Extremely useful in situations as you can use a 9HP infantry to fully capture a city in two days. (In Sami’s case, you would have to cripple a full HP infantry down to 1HP after she begins capture to avoid losing the property.)

  • Hard Campaign

  • Mistwalker - Allows your units to attack first during a counter attack when under Super Power. This only works if you are attacked by a direct unit on a direct unit.
  • Soul of Hachi - Allows your CO to deploy units from your cities during your Super Power. Can be used by all CO’s, so be cheap, the Hachi way.
